Arhus, Denmark & Oslo, Norway
Jeans, t-shirt and tennis shoes…I looked worse than just an American. I looked like I was homeless compared to the chic Danes on the streets of Arhus. I bought some clothes at the local shopping strip, and next time maybe I won’t look like such a tourist. The girl that helped me pick out the clothes…whew…I wish I could’ve taken her with too.
Olso, Norway yesterday was nice. Hot – very hot, especially for this far north. We were at the same level as Anchorage, Alaska up there. The sun sets at 10:30 if you’re lucky.
I went to visit my friends at The Waiting Room Pub in the train station (backstory here). They weren’t as warm as the last time and I got out of there pretty quickly. I took a bus tour around the city, but I had to use all of my concentration to not yelp out every time we came within inches of running straight into a building…or a car…or a child in a stroller and smashing it to bits. People drive like idiots in Norway. It must be the Viking heritage that gives them their absolute abandonment of the streets of Oslo.
Here’s a note for those hopeful Norwegian travelers: never order cheap sushi in Norway. Let’s just say you’ll get what’s coming to you…
Leaving Oslo was picture perfect up on deck. It was sunny and warm with a cool breeze and we floated down the fjord. Mountains on each side, dozens of little Norwegian houses (or LARGE Norwegian houses, as the case may be).
