Cruise Ship Musician Job Postings

By David J. Hahn

I’ve found the best way to find job vacancies for cruise ship musicians is to either approach the talent agencies (Proship, Oceanbound, others), or to directly approach the cruise lines’ head office entertainment departments. It is possible, though, to find a few job listings here and there online.

See, for instance, the entertainment department listings on the site jobs4cruise.com. Currently (and this will probably change), there are some interesting musician listings. I note two from Proship – one for a saxophonist and one for a top 40 band. There’s also a cool one from V. Hospitality, which is a company I hadn’t heard of before, for a pianist on a small luxury cruise ship. Most musicians seem to like the small ships much more than the big ones, so if you’re a pianist you should try to jump on that. If you go to their website, it lists the salary as $1200 Euro ($1,788.99), but it doesn’t say if that’s per week or for the whole duration.

I’m sure jobs4cruise.com is a legitimate website, but I wouldn’t go thru them to get the gig. If it’s the Proship gig or the V. Hospitality gig you want – go directly to them. Who knows what jobs4cruise.com charges for head-hunting musicians.

My brother is a talented and competent musician who lives in Guyana, South America. He manages a band and plays the bass guitar. I would like him to work on a cruise ship because I feel that he is hugely talented. His band has performed at all of the major hotel venues in Guyana including the Guyana Pegasus and the Sidewalk Cafe. Is there a contact (entertainment manager) to whom he can forward a demo? I feel that his talent can do with a wider audience because he is so good and I’m not just saying this because he is my brother! Anyone listening to and viewing his demo will not be disappointed. Please email to the above address. Thank you.
