You take the drug test at the same time as the physical, and you find out a few days later. It’s all pretty quick, so if you are trying to get a cruise job, you should already be clean.

Again, I can’t say it more clearly than this: If you are worried that they’ll find out you smoke weed, then don’t smoke weed.

When are you usually notified about the physical/drug test and how long do you have to complete it?

You won’t be arrested if you fail your drug test. Also, you guys who have upcoming interviews should maybe just stop smoking weed if you are worried about getting a job. I’d give it 6 weeks to be on the safe side, not 6 days.

Hi david,

I would like to go on a cruise ship working next year but im really scared about the drug testing.

I currently smoke weed maybe twice a week and i understand that it will be out of my blood and urine after 3 months but it wont out of my hair.

I know you have said previously they dont do hair tests? Is that still true?

Also if i did fail the test would i be arrested?

hi david, i have an interview tomorrow, and i was wondering how quick do they assign you to take a medical exam? i smoked weed abou 6 days ago and id say i smoke twice a week sometimes less. I just bought detox, so hopefully that helps…i’m nervous and i need to pass this exam.

Do cruise lines test for benzo’s? My mom recently passed at 93 after a prolonged illness and end stage dementia. I was prescribed .5mg of Xanax 3x’s a day to cope with the anxiety for I was her 24/7 sole caregiver for well over a year as she was in home Hospice. Along with the anxiety I suffered from sleep deprivation and am still having problems sleeping and anxiety.

I have worked off and on ships since the early 90′s as a piano bar entertainer so I have a lot of experience and know what I’m getting into. I feel it work be a good place to go to clear my head for a while and do some SCUBA diving as well.

SO … my concern is what kind of of panel do they use? And does having a script make a difference?

I never had to do a drug test on the ship. I did mine as part of the pre-contract physical. It was done in a doctor’s office. Nobody watched me, but I do remember the 2nd time there was a nurse listening at the door (a-w-k-w-a-r-d).

I also want to know about drug tests, I have never had a urine test before, and I have an extremely shy bladder… if you couldn’t manage to do it, is there another option?

Do they give you private time to give the urine sample? or do they watch you fill it? when your getting drug tested?
