Preparing for Guest Performer Job in Hawaii
I’m currently home in Illinois visiting family & friends and packing my bags in preparation for the start of a guest performer gig on a ship in Hawaii. I fly to New York on Wednesday to start rehearsals on Friday. Rehearsals will last a week, but I will be leaving early on Wednesday to fly to Hawaii to get settled in before the rest of the cast arrives at the ship.
This is a resident guest performer position, which means that I will be living mostly as a passenger on the cruise ship, and performing shows two nights a week. The show consists of 5 singers and a piano player/music director (that’s me).
That shows are very similar to a two-act production that I toured with in Taiwan in 2006, and the material is familiar to me. I’m looking forward to starting rehearsals and putting the show together. I anticipate the next few weeks being very busy, followed by several months of very un-busy weeks.
I spent a good deal of time tonight “packing,” by which I mean “getting distracted and forgetting what I was in the middle of.” I find the more I “organize,” the less organized I become, and despite spending many hours “packing,” I have yet to pack a single thing. I think tomorrow will be a long day, considering all the things I still have to do before I leave on Wednesday.
