Hey All,

I was browsing the internet and the thought of playing piano for dance classes ran through my mind. There is a Musician’s Mentoring program through the NBS (National Ballet School of Canada)and that sounded really interesting. I emailed to get informations, we’ll see how that goes.

On the other hand, I was curious if anybody else on this forum had ever done such a gig (classical or modern). If you or somebody you know have ever been an accompanyist for a dance group, how did you score the audition for the gig? What are the abilities sought-after when applying for the gig and where do you find those auditions?

Any help is welcomed!

I know a dance accompanist at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. She got a degree in accompaniment from CCM, then moved to Chicago, then got a call out of the blue from the Artistic Director of Lyric. It’s a sweet union gig and she’s had it for years now.

To get the gig I would suggest you target an opera or dance company, find out who the boss is and call/email them directly. They’ll likely ask for you to send your resume, and who knows what’ll happen from there.
