I've been hearing recently about musicians working as extras, "sidelining" for film and TV shoots. Does anyone have experience seeking out or (better yet) obtaining this kind of work?

Yeah! I just had a friend sideline for the next Sex in the City movie. He said he mostly sat around and was paid hourly.
I had a actor friend once tell me that this was the place to apply:
He heard a scoop once that they were looking for a pianist for an episode of Law & Order - but who knows if that's true. I never went through with it, but maybe I should, now that you bring it up.
