Finding More Music Students

Hello everyone. I wanted to let you know about a new website I am currently building that can help music teachers of all instruments/disciplines to attract new students. Please check it out if you think you might be interested...

LessonMaestro.com

This website is a nation-wide music teachers directory for the entire United States. There will eventually be a small annual subscription fee but for now I'd like to offer everyone here at musicianwages.com a free one-year membership. I hope to officially launch the site at the beginning of 2010 at which time it will no longer be free

I think the feature set the site offers is pretty complete but if anyone has ideas for additional functionalities or features, please let me know and I will consider implementing them.

Hmmm...I don't know ckonline. I have to say I'm skeptical. I always find these database websites to be difficult. Anybody can sign up, right? So how can prospective students tell a good teacher from a bad teacher?

I definitely understand your skepticism. I've looked at many of these teacher database sites and it seems that many of them were designed by people with no experience teaching music lessons and are only concerned with getting high rankings in Google. They are mostly difficult to navigate and cluttered with paid ads.

On LessonMaestro.com teachers have the option of letting prospective students request a list of references from a teacher. Also, if a teacher has any teaching credentials such as MTNA certification, they are able to list those as well. Short of doing background checks and research on every potential subscriber I'm not sure what more can be done. Please, if you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them!

There is of course no better way to find a "good" teacher than word of mouth. Although you have to keep in mind that just because a music teacher is good for one individual doesn't mean they will necessarily be good for someone else. As a viola teacher myself I know the teacher-student relationship entails many facets that go beyond just credentials and experience.

I realize that a teacher directory website like LessonMaestro.com is not for everyone, but I hope it can be a valuable resource for some teachers that would like a web-presence but do not have the time, money or inclination to maintain their own website.
