<p>I&#39;m currently a college music student looking for theater companies that have some kind of internship program for musicians/MDs. Im a trained keyboardist and love being part of the theater. I&#39;ve played in numerous pits and done a little music directing at college and my small community theater group. I think an internship would be a great way to start learning the business. Anyone know of any bigger theater companies that have a good reputation and offer such a program? I want to learn about music directing, being a pit pianist and even the technical software/hardware used to program keyboards and make the pit sound great.

Go at http://www.backstagejobs.com (its listed on MW somewhere), they often have summer internships listed there.

You can also just try and apply for MD jobs for local community productions to gain some experience and then move on to bigger auditions maybe.

If you are willing to take an unpaid internship, you probaby are willing to take an unpaid community position!

Andree-Ann is right, I would suggest looking for a community theatre position instead of an internship. There really aren't internships for MD positions. You're better off trying to work your way up.
