I am a percussionist and was just hired to record on an album for a Pop/Rock artist in Nashville, TN. It's a full length album, so I'll be recording drums on 12 tracks. The artist is unsigned, but is well established and is generating some interest. (last I checked, the fan club page stood right at 10,000 members.)
I have done many of these type of sessions in the past, and have just charged a flat fee. This time, we'll be negotiating a percentage of the record sales. Given that the artist is unsigned, paying a flat rate to a producer and sound engineer, and then a seperate person to master the tracks, what would be a fairr percentage of the sales for me to ask for?
Additionally, does anyone have any tips on structuring a deal for this type of situation? Thanks so much!
Cheers!
B
