I love musicians. We're the best breed in the world and the end of that article is why. It speaks to the love we have for our craft. The suggestion to close the show before downsizing it moved my soul.
We musicians love our music more than ourselves. We love what we create and its effect on others and we'd rather have to find another job than accept a lesser performance.
I take a lot of personal pride in the writer just knowing that I share the craft with him.
There's a lot of talk about that article here in New York. It created a lot of buzz.
Tragic that they cut those 5 players.
If they have a 1,500 seat house (or whatever it is) and tickets average $90...that means they bring in something around $135,000 every night. Those 5 musicians probably cost the show $1,500 a night, or 1.1% of their nightly take. How can they say that saving 1% a night is going to make a difference to their bottom line?
