Great article Matt! I’m planning on relocating to Vegas within the next 12 months, as the cost of living here in the SF Bay Area is getting ridiculous. Thanks for the advice – hopefully the market down there is steady enough for me to utilize my 30+ years of bass playing experience!

Excellent insights, Matt. I’m a little new (Aug 2010) to Vegas and have hit a couple of the open jams. You mentioned a Wednesday jam, so I wonder if we’ve crossed paths or maybe just missed each other.

After detox-ing from the craigslist experience, I’m always looking for avenues and techniques toward networking with other players, so your advice is very helpful. If our paths do cross again, I’ll make sure to holler.

Hey there Matt, I found your article very interesting. I grew up in Los Angeles lived there twenty two years and worked as a guitar player til I moved away. Over the last ten years I have been living in the midwest and it is pretty much impossible to make a living doing what I love which is playing guitar. I have considered making the move to Vegas where I figure my chances are much better at earning a paycheck for my playing. Could you give me just a little insight as to where a guy would start once he hits the ground in Vegas? Appreciate the time thanx!!!
